County Victory Garden Furnishes Products for School Lunch Projects
Minidoka County News
October 1, 1942
Produce from Minidoka county victory garden, raised for school lunches, is now harvested, according to Jim Bell, who supervised the project under the noxious weed control, with Ira H. Kelley, gardener.
Peas, beans, corn and tomatoes were grown and although the frost caught fully twice as many tomatoes as were gathered there were 22,820 pounds of tomatoes gathered from the patch.
There were 50 bushels of peas harvested, 232 bushels of green beans and 16,300 pounds of corn.
Most of the picking was done by the women from the WPA sewing room, Mrs. Anna Taylor, supervisor.
All these products of the victory garden have been trucked to the WPA canning kitchen in Twin Falls and are available here for school lunches when needed.
The garden was on the Chris Uhl place half a mile south of Rupert.

Almost 300 Japanese Now At Labor Camp
Minidoka County News
October 1, 1942
With 102 Japanese from the Manzanar reception center arriving the last of the week and 24 who had been helping in the fruit harvest at Payette returning Sunday, the farm labor camp at the former Paul CCC camp now has a population of almost 300 Japanese, William Bronson, camp manager, said Wednesday.
The entire camp population is engaged in working in the beet harvest, Mr. Bronson said, and calls for workers exceeds the supply. The entire group is working in the beets, he daid, and none are employed in the potato fields.

Minidoka almost had no Land!
The Rupert Record Spoke Up!
July 25, 1912
Rupert Record, Lincoln County
A Large and Juicy Bunch
A County Alright, But Theirs the Lion's Share
Jerome proposes a mirage that fades when its generosity is exposed. “Following are the candidates pledged to a division of Lincoln County into two parts;e [sic] what is known as the Minidoka Tract to be given a county of its own the balance of the county to remain intact”--Jerome Papers
“The Minidoka tract to be made into a county.”
That is a dandy little joke our two county friends have been loving without examining.
That would give us 13 miles of Twin Falls Branch, about 10 miles of Rupert &Bliss branch—no lands but the Minidoka tract.
Jerome proposes to take the bulk of the Rupert& Bliss line herself and also to keep the Milner tract.
Nice plan isn't it?
Real unselfish and kindly aren't they?
Three county plan will give us 19 miles of Twin Falls line and 25 miles of Rupert-Bliss line as well as all of the Milner tract, Hillsdale and Eden.
The Jerome two county plan will give us a railroad valuation of $920,000. The three county plan will give us a railroad valuation of &1,760,000.
The Jerome two county plan does not include the Milner Tract with an assessed value of about $300,000.00. The three county plan does—In other words, the assessable property in the three county plan will be $1,140,000.00 more on these two items alone than will the Jerome plan of two counties.
We need that railroad valuation and also the Milner Tract.
Vote for the three county delegates—if you are a Republican vote for C.F. Borden, senator; E. Ralph Evans, representative; L.R.
